Prof. Hui-Ming Cheng graduated from Hunan University, China in 1984 and received his Ph. D in 1992 from Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR CAS). He used to work at Kyushu Research Center of AIST and Nagasaki University, Japan from 1990 to 1993, and MIT, USA from 1997 to 1998. He became a full professor in 1994 at Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR CAS) and also founded the Advanced Carbon Research Division of Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science, at IMR CAS in 2001. He is now a professor and the founding director of the Institute of Technology for Carbon Neutrality, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, CAS since 2021. He is a member of CAS, a foreign member of the Academia Europaea, and a fellow of TWAS. His research activities mainly focus on energy materials and devices, carbon nanotubes, graphene, and other 2D materials, and he published more than 1000 peer-reviewed papers with an H index of 182 from the Web of Science. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Energy Storage Materials from 2014 to 2025.
