Philippe Martin is currently a senior researcher and director or research in the Energy Division of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in the Marcoule centre, Bagnols sur Cèze, France. After earning a PhD in Chemistry, he joined Nuclear Fuel research department at CEA Cadarache centre in 1999 for postdoctoral research and was appointed as a permanent researcher in the same department in 2001, apposition he held until 2015.

He is actively involved in research on nuclear fuels especially Mixed Oxide (U,Pu)O2 (MOx) with a particular focus on the link between fabrication methods and the microstructure and thermal properties of MOx, its behaviour during irradiation, and its dissolution kinetics using experimental approaches that combine laboratory and synchrotron characterisation tools.
